The taste of La Clusaz in a cheese

In La Clusaz, Reblochon isn’t just cheese — it’s part of our heritage. A symbol of local tradition and craftsmanship, it’s a product passed down through generations. Whether you find it at the market, melted into a tartiflette, or maturing in a farm cellar, it’s a true taste of the mountains.

Let us take you on a journey to discover Reblochon : the different types, how it’s made, where to buy it, how to taste it, and where to meet the people who bring it to life.

Reblochon : farmhouse or dairy – What’s the difference ?

  • Farmhouse reblochon

This is the favorite of cheese lovers. Made directly on the farm from raw milk produced by a single herd and processed immediately after milking, farmhouse Reblochon has a green seal. It's handmade using traditional tools and techniques, giving it a more intense flavor and creamy texture.

  • Dairy reblochon

This one is produced in dairies from pasteurized or thermized milk collected from several farms. It bears a red seal and offers a more standardized, mild flavor — ideal for discovering Reblochon but with less character.

  • Local tip:

We’re not hiding our bias — farmhouse Reblochon has our heart. Its nutty notes, silky texture, and mountain flavor are unbeatable.

Where to buy authentic Reblochon in La Clusaz ?

Local markets

Every Monday morning in the church square, the village market is a must. Local producers sell seasonal goods — and yes, you can often find Reblochon straight from the farm, freshly aged and bursting with flavor.

Shops and delis in the village

No need to look far : Reblochon is available everywhere in La Clusaz. Grocery stores, butchers, and cheese shops all stock it — often in both farmhouse and dairy varieties.

Our favorite spot : Les Pousse Midi de Jérémy

Right across from our agency, this charming village shop offers a fantastic selection of regional products, including an excellent farmhouse Reblochon. Jérémy’s advice, expertise, and welcoming smile make it our go-to address.

From the farm : visit Ferme des Corbassières

If you want to buy directly from the producer, head to Ferme des Corbassières, an authentic alpine farm with panoramic views over the Aravis mountains. This old barn has been converted into a warm and rustic mountain inn where everything revolves around cheese: Specialties include:

  • Reblochon toasts, Reblochonnade, Tartiflette, Potatoes with Tomme blanche, Alpine salads, Homemade desserts: crêpes, tarts…

A gourmet experience right at the source.

How to recognize a “real” Reblochon ?

Telltale signs :

  • The rind should be thin, slightly orange, and lightly bloomy.
  • The paste is soft and slightly elastic.
  • The smell is mild but lingering.
  • The taste : fruity flavors with subtle notes of hazelnut.

The AOP label :

Whether it’s farmhouse (green label) or dairy (red label), a true Reblochon must carry the AOP Reblochon de Savoie designation. It’s the guarantee that strict production standards have been followed — from the cow to the aging process.

When is the best time to enjoy Reblochon ?

Reblochon seasonality
While it’s made year-round, Reblochon is at its best from May to October, when the cows graze on alpine pastures and their milk becomes richer and more aromatic.

Flavor through the seasons
In summer, Reblochon develops herbal, complex flavors. In winter, it’s milder — perfect for comfort dishes like tartiflette or croziflette.

Tasting tips

  • Let it sit at room temperature before eating
  • Pair it with local white wines (Roussette, Chignin-Bergeron)
  • Enjoy it simply with bread, or melt it into a hearty mountain recipe
